Noontime Concert Series

With all the excitement about the San Francisco Opera premiere of Gabriela Lena Frank's El último sueño de Frida y Diego, we bring you a piece by this gifted composer on a smaller scale... Mitos. This wonderful piece was commissioned by Quinteto Latino and is a delightful musical visit with some curious mythical creatures from South America. We'll also perform music of another Gabriela... Puzzle-Tocas by the amazing Mexican composer, Gabriela Ortiz. You'll also hear Paquito D’ Rivera's playful Wapango and another Quinteto Latino commission: The Spanglish Dances by Venezuelan composer Victor Márquez-Barrios.

We're excited to perform for this long-standing San Francisco concert series! The location is beautiful... Old St. Mary's Cathedral, located at the intersection of Chinatown and the financial district. This concert is offered in partnership with San Francisco's Musical Lunch Break, a non-profit that offers a free classical music concert every Tuesday.

Quinteto Latino is pleased to host award-winning Cuban-American composer Orlando Jacinto García in a concert of his works including the world premiere of a new French horn solo, performed by the Artistic Director and French hornist Armando Castellano. Mr. García’s haunting music suspends time with slow-moving timbre and texture changes. The program will include his solo and ensemble compositions “noche” for multiple flutes and clarinets, the bassoon solo “aire, madera, y metal,” “separacion” for English horn and electronics, as well as “múltiples vientos en la distancia” for wind quintet. We are thrilled that Mr. García will be present to introduce his works and meet audience members.

Tickets are $25. Purchase through Old First Concerts here.
