K-12 Education

Quinteto Latino has over 20 years of classroom experience and as educational leaders for culturally competent music education. We bring music education experiences that encourage children of color to express themselves musically and create music that is authentic to their lived experience. Quinteto Latino’s experienced and passionate teaching artists provide standards-based, fun, interactive, age, and culturally appropriate music instruction and programs. All programs are available in person or virtually.

Our Education Programs

Assemblies

Performances by Quinteto Latino are available for student assemblies, parent and family events, graduation ceremonies, and community concerts. Here are two typical concerts we present.

"Raices de Nuestra Musica/Our Musical Roots"

Explore native songs, music, and languages of five countries. Audiences learn about wind instruments and are engaged through repetition and rhythm. Students can delve into the tropical history of Hawaii, singing along with "Aloha-Oe" or snap to the jazzy American tune "Take the A Train". Grade K-5

Composer, Musician, Audience

Three groups of people are needed for a successful concert: composers - who write the music, musicians - who present the music in an exciting way, and the most important group, the audience! Students interact with the music and the musicians. Musical concepts are brought to life both sounds and movement. Grade K-8

Quinteto Latino is a 5-person wind ensemble. Our instruments are Bassoon/el fagøt, Clarinet/el clarinete, Flute/la flauta, French Horn/el orno de francés, and Oboe/el oboe.

Classroom Residencies

Mono- and bilingual teaching artist residencies serve music, multi-subject, and single subject classes. Content is tailored in collaboration with the classroom teacher or music specialist.

Depending on age/grade level, children may learn the instruments of a wind quintet, musical concepts (such as rhythm, pitch, tempo), composition, improvisation, ensemble performing, instrumental coaching, side-by-side performing with the quintet.

Examples of past residencies include Mitos/Myths – students create myths and short musical pieces inspired by Mitos composed by internationally renowned composer Gabriela Lena Frank based on Latin American traditional myths; The Musical Essay – in this arts-integrated residency, students create musical compositions based on the essay form (Grades 6-8).
