In the first of two concert events that will be completed during the 2016-2017 school year, Quinteto Latino visited Selby Lane Elementary School to perform their program “Raices de Nuestra Musica/Our Musical Roots” in a series of 3 performances that included the entire student body


October 6 – 10 2016 —
National Tour- University of Maryland
College Park, MD

Quinteto Latino went on tour in October 2016 to bring the sounds of Latin America to The University of Maryland, College Park. The University hosted the quintet as part of the college performing arts program put on by The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. While there they let workshops, classroom sessions, a student-composed performance event, community outreach events, and a Formal concert.

Channing House Community Concert
Palo Alto, CA

In this event presented for residents at Channing House, Palo Alto, residents of the retirement facility were treated to a special afternoon featuring the Quintet’s Formal Concert program.
January-May 2016–
E.L.M. Residency
San Rafael, CA

Quintet members were in residence for a second season with the Enriching Lives through Music Saturday program for young musicians in San Rafael. This time the Quintet collaborated with L.A. composer, Chris Garcia to create a unique experience for E.L.M. Students.

School Concerts-Peninsula Symphony

The Quintet performed three concerts at local schools on the Peninsula as part of Peninsula Symphony’s “Bridges to Music” program.

River Glen School Residency
San Jose, CA
Quinteto Latino joined Armando Castellano (French Horn Player and Teaching Artist) at the dual immersion River Glen School in San Jose as a culmination to focused music lessons for 3-5 grade classes there.

San Rafael, CA

Williamsburg House Concert
Quinteto Latino performed at a private concert for relatives of Bassoonist, Shawn Jones, in Virginia


January 25-29, 2016–
Virginia Arts Festival Tour
Norfolk, VA
This week-long festival kicked of the first National Tour for Quinteto Latino. The group staged a variety of services including elementary and middle school concerts, featuring the school program “Raices de Nuestra Musica/Our Musical Roots”. Quinteto Latino also held donor events, workshops, and masterclasses for instrumentalists during their stay.

As a culmination of their residency with E.L.M., Quinteto Latino premiered new works by Santa Cruz-based composer Chris Pratorious Gómez alongside student musicians. On December 17th the quintet visited 3 of the partner schools that E.L.M.’s Saturday program “Bartok” students attend. That weekend, December 19th and 20th were buzzing with activity as the students and the quintet showcased their latest work to local community members and parents in a grand celebration of their achievements.

River Glen School Concert
River Glen School, San Jose, CA
Armando and Quinteto Latino concluded their Fall 2015 residency at bilingual immersion (Spanish) school, River Glen. This residency included music class sessions in monolingual Spanish for grades K-8 and ended with 3 live concerts performances based on the Quintet’s school program “Raices de Nuestra Musica/Our Musical Roots” but modified for each grade level group

The Quintet held a full concert including works from commissions to standard repertoire in an intimate 45 seat living room on the grounds of the historic Mazza castle in Pacifica.

Quinteto Latino flautista Diane Grubbe and French horn, Armando Castellano played solos by Latino composers as part of an open mic night at the Center for New Music curated by Meerenai Shim. I performed Sueños (dreams) by Puerto Rican composer Armando Bayolo and Diane performed Nocturno for solo alto flute by Mexican composer Mario Laviista.

Day-long festival included Quinteto Latino performing three workshops on Latin-American music as well as the first public reading of their co-commissioned work by Mexican-born composer José Luis Hurtado called “Pirhekua”.

SAFOs Dance
South Tucson, AZ
Quinteto Latino French Hornist and Director, Armando Castellano, spent 9 days in the city of South Tucson working on a community based project headed by Latino-run Safos Dance Theatre, their Dancing the Mural Project. Armando performed a number of works with the dancers: his own arrangement of La Llorona, some G Funk and lowrider inspired music, as well as a newly commissioned work by Mexican born composer Luis Escareño called “Embark: a multi-media work for horn and dance”(2015).
